This is a dark horse pick.
In general, I can talk about how shocked I am at some omissions from the people who replied. I sure saw a chunk of Will Ospreay, but I did not see a bunch of El Hijo del Santo. I did not see Dandy vs. Satanico, the choice AAA matches that I at least expected somebody to say as a solid answer. Furthermore, I thought I'd see the famed When Worlds Collide tag, the famed Torneo Ciberneticos from CMLL in the 90s, down to even a few of the old puroresu classics. Sure, I got a few Funk matches, but it is disappointing to me that nobody even mentioned a thought of many of the King's Road classics. It's certainly not judgment, but it certainly is observation.
I watched this before making the tweet, so I still say it qualifies. I never expected to see this on the tweet, and I didn't.
If you replied, even if you didn't, and you're reading this, you've got your first homework assignment. Go watch this, man.
There's something just real organic about this, something that feels right, especially when it's four veterans in the ring, especially when the rudos just shoot their shot in a ring instantly, immediately. Not only that, but when you see all of them just go for this high risk stuff. Like Villano IV and Hijo del Santo shooting for a team tope in the sheer opening minutes, you just know it's going to be good.
The entire match follows up with this ludicrous punch drunk brawl that feels like it never ends, and they don't go light on this either. Every punch feels like they're meant to hurt each other, especially once the blood starts flowing, knowing it didn't come from anything extra except these brutal punches, ones which make me wince at times. It just keeps coming at you, and coming at you, and it just all peaks when this crowd just blows up at one of the hottest tecnico comebacks I've ever seen.
Is it perfect? Yes.
When I give a match a five, that means that no amount of words can ever truly actually sum up how I accurately feel about a match.
Sometimes you just have to say “hell fucking yeah,” and live with it.
A lot of these ratings I give for the early parts of this series might be high, but for this one, I think I might stand on this one as long as I live.
